The first published scientific book of Oleg Andros.
The Independent Journalists Union "Nature first" reccomends the book "Environmental movements in the modern political process" by its co-founder Oleg Andros.
This monograph, written on the basis of Oleg’s PhD thesis, was published in 2012 by the Kyiv publishing house Stylos.
About the book: the monograph was written on the basis of the author’s PhD thesis, which was created during the active emergence of the “Save Old Kyiv” movement, during the protests in Kharkiv’s Gorky Park and other well-known environmental events in modern Ukraine. The book describes the ideology and features of the structure of environmental movements in Europe and the USA, the process of their transformation into political parties.
Environmentalism is seen as a way to resolve the crisis of the interaction between society and the natural environment, which is evolving from from a worldview to a political ideology and underlies the environmental type of “new social movements”. Particular attention is paid to social and deep ecology as projects of transformation of society.
The process of institutionalization of environmentalist movements in the United States and Western European countries, as well as the problematic points of this process in Ukraine, is described. Author describes some features of the environmentalist movement: sub-sociality and transnationality, attitude to “classical” political ideologies and the tactics of the “network” movement.
